Vanda

Vanda

Family of Orchid. The native land - Asia, Australia, Malay archipelago. The sort includes nearby 35 - 45 kinds.

Vanda is a thermophilic plant, optimum temperature must be nearby 22-25°C, in winter minimum 16°C. It is necessary to avoid sharp fluctuations of temperatures, however, night fall of temperatures promotes flowering. Vanda blue demands more cool wintering, at temperatures in limits 14°C.

Vanda requires very good illumination, but solar beams are admissible only at evening or morning time. In the afternoon the plant will burn down on the sun. At placing in a room, practically you can not do anything without additional light source. Often provided with qualitative versatile illumination by artificial light (lamps white or a daylight), Vandas grow and blossom better, than only on natural illumination.

Watering should be plentiful during growth in the spring and in the summer, the soil should be damp all the time. Watering must be very moderated in the winter, i.e. to humidify the substratum, only when it completely will dry up. At watering and at spraying is important that the moisture was not filled in with drops in bosoms of leaves - it cause defeat by various fungoid diseases.

Humidity of air must be about 70 % and above. Vandas grow up in pendant baskets, thus it is necessary to consider that air in the top of the room is always more chilly, than on a window sill, therefore orchids regularly spray, but with very soft water. Water must be filtered and boiled.

Breeds by branch of a part of a stalk with an air root.
