This fan palm tree came from South East Asia, is brought to Europe about 230 years ago and since then with success is cultivated both in greenhouses, and in rooms. The botanical name occurs from Greek rhapis - a birch, a stick. Occur from China and Thailand. Meets in a wild kind mainly in southern China. These palm trees were brought to Europe through Japan.

Rhapis is a bush-kind plant. Rhapises are low palm trees and even on the native land don't exceed in height of 4 m. They always grow by groups.
